It's a compilation mixed by a guy called Amorphous Androgynous [this is a pseudonym for veteran trance duo Future Sound of London. and it's on Platypus Records and it's fucking mind-blowing. That would be my album of the year or any other year. It's a double CD of the most obscure psychedelic tracks I've ever heard in my entire life and I've got a lot of psychedelic music."



Who is Amorphous Androgynous ?
We are the psychedelic super group formed and produced by seminal electronic duo, FSOL (Future Sound Of London). We have released 3 albums since 2001. The ISNESS in 2001 (reissued next month), Alice In Ultraland on EMI Harvest (PINK FLOYD’s label) and the Peppermint Tree and the Seeds Of Superconsciousness on Freedimensional / FSOLdigital - out this summer. We have collaborated and written with many great musicians, Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart/ Jeff Buckley), Alisha Sufit (Magic Carpet), Miikey Rowe (Oasis/ Sheryl Crowe), Baluji Shrivastav (Indian classical sitarist) and have just completed a mini tour of Russia.

Amorphous Androgynous are psychedelic cosmic rock supergroup comprised of Gaz Cobain and Brian Dougans aka seminal electronic duo, Future Sound of London. ‘A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding In Your Mind’, an ISDN show Amorphous Androgynous broadcast on XFM and KISS FM, has become something of a legend between fans and it extremely hard to come by these days even on the web.

This release is set to re-generate the excitement around the Cosmic Space Music concept and finally make the music available to the fans while aiming to re-create the essence of the mix – a DJ trip spanning over 4 decades of genre-busting music featuring artists such as Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, Donovan, Devendra Banhart, Tim Buckley, Hawkwind, Magic Carpet, Can, Emperor Machine, Pop Levi, The Earlies, The Psychonauts, Betty Davis and more.

A MONSTROUS PSYCHADELIC BUBBLE EXPLODING IN YOUR MIND started life as a (NOW ) legendary one off radio broadcast previewing a radical new 'psychedelic vision' by FSOL in 1996-psychedelia reinterpreted in a crazy collage of everything goes as long as it BLOWS in the juxtaPOSE ! Thus Bill Hicks and Bukowski spat out alongside the Beatles and the Trip , Italian Porn and the Chemical Brothers crashed in with a breakbeat or two underpinning a raga ride on a rickshaw ride somewhere in Notting Hill.

This startling DJ broadcast led to the FSOL flipping into their alter ego AMORPHOUS ANDROGYNOUS without warning and producing the albums the ISNESS (2000 ) and then ALICE IN ULTRALAND (2005) on the legendary Pink Floyd/ELO label HARVEST and countless further Monstrous Bubble broadcasts on stations such as BBC1 , BBC 6 and XFM over the ensuing decade .  These broadcasts filtered a new PSYCHEDELIA that they had glimpsed and which was stirring in the shadows. Now ten years later and psychedelic has become the buzz word for every band and every dj/individual/designer wishing to espouse a new liberated more experimental approach to either living/designing or simply making a more colorful music.

Beards and long hair and guitar solos and coyote primal vocalising channeling the gods of all persuasions is more than ever likely to happen and we could very well be on the verge of that PARADIGM that the original broadcast foresaw and presaged.
Every advertising agent is searching to sell liberation to us-our suspicion of marketing and technology has led to a new revolution and so in an attempt to sell us a rebalance toward simplicity and innocence and freedom and health and sustainable ecological balance in gaia gurus ponder on the design of cars and colours swirl in psychedelic reverie and abandon in needless companionship for every conceivable product. Stomach yoghurt bacteria are activated by yoga assannas and mobile phones keep us connected while we migrate from the city in our horse drawn carriages.The big brother eyeball sensing the turning tide even camouflages itself in the new technicolour dreamcoat.

This psychedelia isn't an archivists wet dream however returning to haunt us-the vision of psychedelia at work here in the Monstrous Bubble is an excuse to pillage the entire sonic terrain from the day the electricity floweth to record the soul and to engulf everything of interest.Consequently we see a seed that has never left music and which unites seemingly incompatible eras and genres so that here they sit side by side reflecting glory on each other. Maybe this is the point maybe great liberation whether it be punk or funk or gunk or crunk ain't that different after all- its a genuine cry for liberation and a call for freedom from the constrains of a particular time. What's interesting here though is that most of the music here in 'the bubble' doesn't allow itself to be imprisoned by 'political' time but aspires moreover toward an ultimate liberation-that of a unified timeless multiplexity.
It levitates above fashion and politics and protest related to a day a month or year and addresses universal truth.

Of course what we are talking about here really is in essence FREEDOM . .one of the most commonly used and therefore mis-understood words. Freedom from limitation-freedom of expression-freedom from self- freedom in all its myriad forms-thus we find here all music that at some time found the freedom to push out and 'find itself' -whether it be the romantic folk innocence of the troubador leaving the machines and the urban way behind or the less romantic but equally startling conglomerated attempts to find freedom within machines or even in the rebalance of machine and nature - 'freedom exists in the pockets of air within a prison' so here the romantic pastoral wave goodbye ' the pure expression ' of a cosmic folk sit perfectly alongside the apparent contradiction of Einstein going deep into science and quantum energy and finding god and freedom within the atoms themselves- same destination different route.Psychedelic nature-psychedelic machines-are not mutually exclusive . .they're dependent on the resolve of purpose . . . the challenge is whether its possible to create a fully psychedelic Automata one which flows, loves and connects beyond 'out of the senses' to the indivisible strands of life itself . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Whatever it is, these different routes unearth a common liberation- a view of the universe refusing to be one dimensional- lyrics and sounds are at the same time serious and yet playful delightfully absurdist but without any contradiction -graduating from higher multiversities of life-equal mix infant zen vagrant wanderer-these are people who are seeking a more colourful vista than the apparition of grey and monochrome that exists in the metaphorical prison. So along the way suspended in the 'Monstrous Bubble' we find music tumbling so sweet and out of time with the corporate cool music that limits itself to forlorn student love and professional melancholia that sheen impressively in sparkling intellectually impressive form but which upon closer inspection has no meaning or truth or depth or revelation about the mysteries contained within life's alluring shell.So yes maybe there is a renunciation of the shopping mall and the blockbuster movie at work here- maybe there is the understanding that the latest computer gizmo piled into oblivion into our senses can't contain all the answers but maybe 'the bubble' finds a new harmony where machines aren't discarded for meditation in caves and where computers aren't discarded for a horse drawn carriage after all-'wasn't this the previous revolution' but maybe this NEW REVOLUTION to find freedom afresh to disseminate both in nature and down 'the wire'.

Love's sweet cadence is detectable because of authenticity through a digital portal . .so of course it makes sense this new psychedelic embraces all dissemination that lies ahead . .while advertising is always a struggle a co-ercion of our senses . .this psychedelia spreads effortlessly through the new media because at heart it is a call back to the heart away from the mind games that have consumed us and pulled at us over the last decades.So yes there has been much to appeal to the head and to the greed of owning and accumulating in this physical lifetime but somehow this hasn't created a 'joy' or revelation or balanced dimension.  Are we talking energy at work here 'god' ah yes white man has got a god complex alright . . .and here we at least see the complex explored . . . this again is a commonality here in 'the BUBBLE' . .the universe isn't reductionist in the 5 senses sense of the word . . it opens up and yes there is a god head inherent in it . .but the difference is the godhead is in itself unlimited- how could it be otherwise . . thus we also have a revelation . . .as Buffy St Marie sang 'God is alive Magik is afoot' there are some connections to entities at work here . . pagan churches pulled down in bygone centuries to become the edifice mask of new religion . maybe . .but certainly however inexplicit there is a fearlessness to explore here . .everything . .the soul . .the machine . .the godhead . . .and yes that is the way to true grooviness !  Here in this Monstrous Bubbledom we cast an eye inward outward backward and forward simultaneously and in the process we shake it all about'ward' and admit we never had the answers we never knew anything we just are and in that admission maybe we are truly connecting to something . . .. something timeless and magic and in that admission we stand for the accumulated wisdom of time and its whispered teachings not defiantly against it with an ego which renounces everything proclaiming itself immune and alone in time . . 'we' solely the future . . .yes that vision that sells us the foregone technological entity but ah NO which sublimates the spirit . .how can that be ??? Maybe there is a new technology at work here and maybe just maybe its more advanced than any production line . . .who knows . .maybe we'll only find out when the hard drives of our superconsciousness are wiped by a magnetic shift of such magnitude that we lose everything that we thought we'd accumulated . .and realise that digital accumulation and materialism mean nothing when forced back to simple survival . .maYBE SHIPBUILDING will become a new technology once more , , funny how technology once forgotten becomes new again . . . . the cycle is inevitable . . . . programming today . . .land reprogramming tomorrow . . .

Here maybe in these seemingly random selection of drone poems and knome tomes lies an exploration beyond the obvious pitfalls of living in the prison of a particular decade Maybe psychedelia is just experimentation to aspire to find freedom -maybe it comes when there is the desire for freedom or when we wake up to hidden forces that are limiting us. Whatever whenever -there is certainly something ' in the wind and in the ether' and thus this is a very timely and maybe long overdue birth for the 'A MONSTROUS BUBBLE' series- Maybe the forces of constriction that produce this desire are back upon us and maybe this is why it is happening again-this seemingly parallel time.Certainly all the associated initiatives for freedom are in evidence . . .colour and flourish is coming back into design and fashion . . .the interest in sustainable ecologic ethical living is a necessity . .and practice of alternative god complexities and cosmic consciousness are abounding . . .aH THE DOOR IS OPENING . . .come in ! So-Timeless Frequencies that disseminate through the ether and which hang suspended until channelled into the form of radio broadasts or mix albums. The first VOLUME is upon us- the Eternal Now-A History Of Psychedelic Travel and Sonic Teleportation is being transmogrified by the Amorphous Androgynous RIGHT NOW and is scheduled for a Sept 2008 release on Platipus Records.We will feature some taster snippets here for your delight-the Amorphous have unearthed a godly selection of sonic rarities from sublime folk to space songs to psychedelic PROGtastic plastic-we couldn't open the release schedule with a greater BIG BANG theory of timeless relativity- music which has been waiting to be reconstituted in this fashion.They have joined all hands together in celebration here and shown how the portal between then now and when really has no meaning- all of this music is STARTLING and VERY MUCH ALIVE IN THE PRESENT.  'The Monstrous Bubble' will be an ongoing mix series featuring guest collaters at the behest of the Amorphous Androgynous and the FSOL.
