Following Radionasty (the new production and DJ collaboration between Keith Tenniswood and Billy Nasty) we now cross the Atlantic for some first class techno action with a Brazilian twist from Anderson Noise.

Building a subtle and layered mix, Anderson Noise delivers a fluid techno selection that slowly but surely gathers pace until the floor is primed and ready to explode. Featuring the likes of Slam, Space DJz, Lee J Malcolm, Pig & Dan, My Evil Twin, Carl Taylor, Gamal Kabar, Re Dupre

The career of DJ and producer Anderson Noise is one as a pioneer of the electronic music scene in Brazil. Native of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Noise started DJing in a slow but steady manner as is the custom in his region of Brazil. In 1989, during the explosion of Acid House on the club scene, Noise started playing around the local circuit in his hometown. Subsequently Noise started organizing and producing large scale events in which he could also DJ from as early as 1992.

There were more than 40 party events thrown in places like mental institutions, car dealership lots, shopping centres, historic buildings, etc, etc. The Noise Family turned into a formidable company, as the entire family was involved in organizing and working the events. ‘Mamma Noise’, Anderson´s mother worked as hostess in the events and Alvinho ‘Little Noise’ joined in the fun burning up the dance floor spinning records along with Anderson.

In 1997 Noise was invited to include "Shantytown" on "Electronic Music Brazil", the first CD of 100% Brazilian DJs & producers released by Sony-Mercado Mundo Mix. Later that year Noise won the Best Underground DJ award from the magazine, DJ Sound and then he won the trophy for the best producer and DJ of techno music - the "Night Illustrated" award created by Erika Palomino from the newspaper ´´A Folha De São Paulo``.

Anderson has always participated in the major national/Brazilian Electronic Music Events. His presence was felt by in every edition of the Skol Beats Festival since it's inception, serendipitously closing the 2003 Skol Beats Festival with great fanfare and Noise also participated in the "Electronic Tent" of Rock in Rio in 2000.

It was in this year that his second compilation CD was released called ‘October’, with some tracks produced by his own record label Noise Music. The label started up in 1999 with the intention of bringing music to the world composed and produced by Brazilians. In his own words; “We Brazilians always buy music by gringo artists and the gringos in turn never have any of our music”.

In 2001 Anderson became a DJ in residence at ‘Headstart’ in Turmills Club, London, integrating a select group of Brazilian DJs that were playing in the UK and Europe at the time. At the same time Noise played abroad he would share the stage with great international DJs when they would tour Brazil. Carl Cox was impressed by Noise's force of playing the first time Cox toured Brazil and in the 2001 ‘Top 100 DJs’ issue of DJ Magazine classified Anderson as the future ‘DJ Hero'.

In 2003 Anderson was invited by DJ Magazine to produce his fourth CD, "DJ World Series, Anderson Noise". From then on Noise's international career kept growing steadily. He has participated in the biggest international festivals: Homelands, Dance Valley, Creamfields, Sonar, Exit, Rock in Rio Lisboa, SAMC, Knebworth Ministry of Sound, etc. His presentations around the world have given him the opportunity to play in various countries such as; Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, China, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, England, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Japan etc…his CDs, records, and DVDs have been released by international labels such as AFULAB, Áudio, Circle Music, Desaper Here, Eukatech, Harthouse, Jericho, Lo Kik, Mentor, Missile, Molecular, Pild, Primate, Really Really Big Records, Sleaze, Spectrum & Teggno and are being played throughout the world.

In 2005 Noise created TV Noise together with “Toro Productions”, including weekly programs from the DJ’s perspective showing clubs, parties, and festivals in Brazil and all over the world. After having played in Tokyo, Anderson entered into a partnership with “Womb”, considered the second best club in the world by MIXMAG for presenting annual tours in Brazil and Japan.

Noise’s fifth CD is an innovative one for the Brazilian public called, "Anderson Noise Live @ Skol Beats 04". It is the first electronic music CD recorded live by a Brazilian DJ during his gig at the Skol Beats Festival which is the biggest electronic music festival of it´s kind in Latin America. In Anderson´s never tiring mode, he shortly afterwards released the first DVD from a Brazilian DJ, "Brazilian Love Affair", that accompanies Anderson´s club/gig- circuit in many different states/regions of Brazil in which he is resident DJ.

In 2008 he DJ released 9 EP's and was invited by the Spanish club, "La Terrazza", to compile his own annual CD that involved the German label "Circle Music". Noise returned to the Top 100 DJ's of DJ MAG again this time coming in at 26, being the only Brazilian DJ to place in the top 100 3 years and with the highest ranking.

In the first week of 2009 Noise released his second DVD, The "Connection 1969", the first documentary about a Brazilian DJ. He put this together with his 7th CD compilation, "NOISE CONNECTION", that included his own productions, remixes and unreleased mixes. In this same year Noise's DVD was shown at the 10th edition of the FILE International Festival of Electronic Language. Anderson also was elected for first place in DJ MAG Brazil's ranking of the no.1 DJ in the country!

To this day, Noise continues to push the art of DJing and techno as he consistently showcases the techno sound of Brzail across the globe. Anderson Noise is currently the resident DJ of Clash Club (São Paulo), Deputamadre (Belo Horizonte) and D-Edge (São Paulo).

Q&A with Anderson Noise (English & Brazilian versions)

1. Please give us a quick walk through your selection. Why did you choose these tracks for the mix?

I started the selection by mixing up my favorite tracks from my Noise Music label with what I know and like from those distributed by EPM!

2. Perhaps an obvious one as Brazil has a history steeped in dance and dance music but how was techno and electronic music originally accepted when you started DJing?

When I started playing in 1988, St. Paulo was the only city in Brazil that had nights of electronic music in clubs, being just a few people who even spoke about it in the country. In my hometown Belo Horizonte where it all started, people only wanted to hear rock and Brazilian popular music. It was very difficult to present a show of electronic music in my town!

3. You would have to put on parties in places like mental institutions, car dealership lots, shopping centers, historic buildings etc. What obstacles did you encounter when putting on such events and what advise would you give now to your younger self?

Until 2001, I did a lot of parties and was always looking for unusual places to play, that was our most characteristic feature. I'm helping a new group that is doing the same as I did and it's what is needed for them at this moment.

4. How have clubs and attitudes to DJing changed in Brazil over the last 10 years?

It changed a lot, the values were totally different ten years ago. Before, the majority of clubs seeked out technical DJs, now they're hiring celebrity DJs and pull off strategies to sell more champagne, Here I'm talking about the majority of clubs. We have amazing clubs as well which are spread out around Brazil!

5. What are your plans for your label Noise Music? Do you see the label continuing to focus on Brazilian producers and showcasing Brazilian techno?

This year 2011 is a year that started out being a year where I decided that Noise Music should put out really good releases. My objective isn't to release only Brazilian producers, but if this is what is happening and they're always sending me good tracks, then let it be. I hope to do the best for Noise Music and to present really good music to dance to.

6. Who are the new Brazilian producers that we should be looking out for?

Re Dupre, Click Box, Allan Villar, Caiwo, Angelo Fracalanza and Alex Stein.

7. You have released many EPs over the last 13 years but when can we expect an Anderson Noise artist album?

I really do not know when I'll produce my own album, maybe for 2014.

8. From an outside perspective Brazil, like the Amazon, conjures up images of both beauty and danger but what is the reality of living in Sao Paulo today?

All of Brazil is dangerous if you walk with a camera around your neck. I visit a lot of different places, even the slums and I have never been robbed there, though the only time I was robbed in my life was on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. For me, Sao Paulo is the world's best city for food and now I don't know a city that has so many good clubs!

9. Having DJed all over the world what were some of the most unusual and surprising places that you played?

Since I was a boy I've been crazy about Japan and after the first time I played there, even more so.
Argentina and Ireland are the countries where the people are so beautifully animated, but Brazil and England are where I feel most at home.

10. Please give us your top 5 Brazilian artists (of any genre).

Uakti, Joao Carlos Martins, Milton Nascimento, Orchestra Bachiana Philharmonic and Marina Machado.
