Lee J. Malcolm "Oh Yeah" (EPM Music) by epm
Lee J Malcolm returns with another track ahead of his debut solo album ‘Folded Spaces’, due this summer. Here he delivers a cover of the classic 1985 track ‘Oh Yeah’ by Yello, to be released with a remix by Hardgroove maestro, Ben Sims.
Yello’s ‘Oh Yeah’ was a defining tune in the 80s merging the latest electronic music with that now familiar manipulated vocal, which was brought to most people’s attention on the soundtrack to the 1986 classic teen movie, ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ and later in the 1987 film, ‘The Secret of My Success’.
Lee J Malcolm’s version updates the 80s analogue sound of Yello’s original to take it firmly into the 21st Century, while still retaining its relentless driving quality and those core elements that made the 80s original so addictive.
For the remix, Ben Sims delivers the finely measured hard funk and shuffling groove that has become his trademark. Always utilising his superior DJing skills and deep understanding of the dancefloor to capture just the right amount of drops and builds, his remix of Lee J Malcolm’s ‘Oh Yeah’ could be a release in its own right.
The launch party for Lee J Malcolm’s ‘Folded Spaces’ album takes place on Thursday 16 June at Nitsa (Barcelona) during the Sonar festival period, with Lee performing live alongside Robert Hood (celebrating the launch of his ‘Omega: Live’ album on M-Plant), Radioactive Man and Billy Nasty back-to-back as RadioNasty, and EPM’s own Oliver Way.
