BOOMKAT
Boomkat are a very selective store who cherry pick labels and releases to fit their niche and discerning electronic/leftfield and dancefloor clientel. Often getting your label onto the store is already a sign of a quality label that has appeal to its members. Every week Boomkat also runs 10 rotating banners on the front page, however, this are purely at their own choice.
Boomkat's sister store '14 Tracks' http://14tracks.com puts together a well thought out compilation every week that revolves around either an artist 'eg: 14 productions or remixes from Redshape' to a visionary label 'eg 14 classic house tracks from DJ International' or a topical style such as dubstep, alt-rock or minimal wave. The series is highly regarded and also compiled by Boomkat's in house team. If you have a suggestion that we could put forward to them, please email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
TRACKITDOWN
- Top 10 charts Trackitdown. Pretty straight forward but this is the 2nd most popular way for our customers to shop on Trackitdown, second only to the ‘Featured Section’ which is where we highlight all the key and best releases. All the artist needs to do is pick 9 live tracks off the site and add the new release that we are promoting to the top. Fire over the list to me with a square artist image and we publish it on site. Then, so long as the artist is A-List we use the new release and the chart in our Monday mailout that now goes out to over 150,000, which on the day of release is obviously a massive PR tool! Newsletters look like this... http://www.trackitdown.net/newsletter/2008-11-24/e-flyer.html
- Sample Pack section where they sell production samples packages that you make up. See a list here of what is available so far: http://www.trackitdown.net/genre/sample_packs/search_A.html
- Player you can create for your sites. They can set up a direct ink to your label so the url would be www.trackitdown.net/yourlabel
- Spec is below and please email

for an overlay that needs to go on top too. We host these free of charge if the label can supply them
· Dimensions: 816x105px with overlay on top
· Format: Flash or animated gif
· Linking to either track page or label page
· Link target should be “_parent” for Flash banners. - Front Page Feature: We host short Q & A sessions with the artist to publish on the front page along with an artist image, obviously we would link to the release and to the artist page on TID at the bottom of the interview therefore driving traffic directly to the product.
- Remix Competition / Sample Pack: We like to host remix competition’s as often as possible. We would then sell the parts of the track on the site for around £2.50 in a bundle that would also include the full track which, as well as selling more music, adds revenue for labels too. We would discuss a deadline and advertise accordingly and forward any entries to the labels for consideration. As part of this package we would also ask the artist to provide us with an artist ‘Sample Pack’ of around 150 samples from their hard-drive that we could sell for £14.99 alongside the new album and to drive customers towards the remix competition. The label return on this is £5.70 per unit. We have recently run a competition with Christian Fischer on the back of his ‘Bryzant Games’ album and have had a very positive response! Here is a link to the Christian Fischer project as an example : http://www.trackitdown.net/genre/sample_packs/track/727584.html With regards to a prize for the winning entry, the standard deal is that the winning remix gets a release on the hosting label.
- HTML Codes for Myspace: Once we have a release, sample pack or a chart, we can supply the label with HTML codes for both that can be pasted into a Myspace to create a ‘sticker’ that visitors can click on to be directed straight to the release, or the chart, on TID.
- Facebook App: The Trackitdown Facebook application allows you to publish your 'Public Playlist'
to your profile and pages as well as post tracks to friends profiles and send
tracks as part of Facebook messages.
This user guide is designed to help you add the application to your Facebook
account and exploit the full potential of it's features. Each step is detailed below
with images and video to help guide you through the process.

STOMPY
Here are a few marketing ideas which we currently use, but we are always willing to think outside the box for other promotions:
- EP spotlights: this is the most effective way of promoting within our site, as the spotlight can be viewed from every page on the site so it attracts more attention. The standard price is $50 for 30,000 views, or $75 for 60,000 views. However, we are always willing to trade free spotlights for specialized promotion, such as a dedicated email blast announcing the content on Stompy from the label or for Stompy logos and sponsorship on event flyers.
- Label spotlights: Just like above, but the spotlight takes their user to their label profile page, where all releases are listed.
- Charts: As one of the most heavily viewed pages on the site, it helps promote the artists and the label. If any would like to participate, simply send a list of 10 tracks from the site along with a picture and we'll sort it out and add it to the Charts section. Please email your charts to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
- Exclusive Pre-Release: For content where we receive the EP exclusively for a period of time, we will offer it at a premium price ($2.99 .mp3/$3.49 wav), give it a free spotlight, and guarantee front page placement.
- Label/Stompy banners for web: Make a label banner that includes the label logo and Stompy logo which links to the releases on Stompy, used for Myspace and message board posts and advertising
- Artwork dimensions: logo profile image for label pages = 523 pixels wide x 75 pixels high / spotlight dimensions = 176 pixels wide X 106 pixels high

AKUMA
- 1. articles
- 2. banners
- 3. videos
- 4. free-downloads
- 5. podcasts
They have two music journalists who produce articles about artists, albums and labels on a regular basis. These contents are listed in the magazine and on the respective album page, later in their newsletter. If you have corresponding texts, you may send them to me in order to have them published on akuma more quickly. You can send me any information (your own reviews, interviews, pics.) about your artists/album.
2. Banners
The navigation bar is integrated into and visible on all pages. It contains four banner spaces. Banners are displayed in rotation and are exchanged regularly. Their own banner system operates the banners. In these areas, the labels may prominently place their select songs and other content, thereby specially promoting them. You may deliver to us banners for albums, artists or labels. The respective album, artist or label page on akuma will be used as target URL.
At a glance:
Banners on akuma
Size: 235 x 120 pixels (width x height)
Formats: GIF, JPG, PNG, Flash
3. Videos
On the akuma homepage you can find the video tool, called akuma tv, which shows five music videos as promo. They do not sell these videos. They are a kind of sales promotion. They are in the fileformat "flash", which is very secure and it is not possible to rip the videos.
Have a look here: http://www.akuma.de/
Akuma tv is a tool to arouse interest and not only hear music but also to see it. It is important for us to give the user who loves music the opportunity to discover music in more ways then the usual ones. They don't want to do all the usual things that other portals do. I mean, the user can watch a lot of musicvideos at youtube but there he don't have the opportunity to buy the music. They do have this service. This is a quite good combination and this service is unique in Germany!
They show 5 videos in a rotation on akuma tv. They change the videos every week - so that they have one new release per week or more. Please send videos, if you have, in the file format VOB or MPEG.
4. Free-Downloads
An other promotion tool is the "Free-MP3 download". The user gets a free download after registering as a user. If you have any tracks that you can handle like a "give away" then send me the mp3s and they will release it. Here you also have the opportunity to limit the downloads if you like. This Free-MP3 concept is not new, they use it like a chance for the user to discover new music. If a user gets music for free, then he will hear it and perhaps - in the second step - he will buy an album. You can see the first selection here:
If you like they can create a promotion-flyer which includes informations about this free-download(artist/label/album). This flyer will be added to the download, so that every user who has the mp3 will have the promotion info.
5. Podcasts
They will release a podcast on akuma every 6-8 weeks. The two akuma journalists talk about new releases and interesting topics like a music radio show. If you like you can send any interview-recording and they can use it in their podcast.

Info on how Juno decide on who is featured and who is not:
The rank is determined by sales strictly speaking, however we take in to consideration other factors, including:
- Review in national/international publication
- Review in well renowned internet magazine/blog
- Remix produced by a big artist (artists rank also based on sales)
- Appears in 3 or more DJ Charts (DJ Charts must be submitted by recognized Artists/DJs)
- Failed searches (when a user searches for a title before its release and the search returns a blank we record this as a failed search, a substantial number of these for the same title could result in a feature)
Because Juno sell both physical and digital releases they have two back end systems that they use to determine sales rank, this is then cross referenced with other data like the output of the label, obviously a label churning out a substantial number of poor releases will still feature quite high in an overall sales rank, due to quantity not quality. It is therefore impossible for me to give you a break down of our top selling labels.
From Juno: We have a substantial amount of demand now for frontpage features and we have had to restrict coverage on the front page to our top 1000 labels. I am more than happy for you to fire over any request and I will determine their feature-ability on a label by label and title by title basis.
PEOPLE'S MUSIC STORE
- Set up a store. Setting up a basic store is very quick and easy but the more interesting stores require more time - we understand the lack of resource labels have and are happy to offer direct support and help for anyone who wants to create a store. Stores can include artist bio's and information on releases etc and video promo's can also be embedded, see ( http://peoplesmusicstore.com/rose_is_a_rose ) as an example. Good examples of stores include:-
- Label pages: http://peoplesmusicstore.com/warmdata / http://peoplesmusicstore.com/scyllarecords / http://peoplesmusicstore.com/machine-records / http://peoplesmusicstore.com/riserecordings
- Fan pages: http://peoplesmusicstore.com/dynamicmonkey / http://peoplesmusicstore.com/walpod / http://peoplesmusicstore.com/auntsallys / http://peoplesmusicstore.com/guitarbar / http://peoplesmusicstore.com/alartificiallife
- Tell their mailing list. Encouraging fans to also set up stores will snowball the effect. Running competitions, offering prizes and exclusives are a great incentive and nice added value for the time fans will take to promote their favourite artists.
- We don't offer any banner advertising on the site at the moment and the sites that are featured on the front of the site are entirely metric based, but these metrics are easy to influence because they are pulled from recently updated and most popular stores, once you have your mailing list onboard and on the site stocking their stores, this should be easy to get the labels releases on the front of site.
You'll find below a basic information page with all the sections of Bubblebeat, basically the "Easy Access" (Aquarium) with customized selection and the "Full access" with all music genres and for every style : TOP 50 / BB select (selection of the team). Moreover you have the possibility to credit your account / Offer a credit to a friend or just a track ('by cliking on BB+ next to the track).
Concerning logos and banners, you can downloaded this via http://www.bubblebeat.com/fr/Goodies
