Darren Emerson, My Evil Twiin, Paris The Black Fu & Gareth Whitehead
‘What It Is Remixes’ is the fifth remix EP package for Gareth Whitehead’s ‘The Brood’ project and will be the final package prior to ‘The Brood Remixed’ album, which is due this summer.
‘The Brood’, released in 2015 was Gareth’s debut album and a long time in the planning as it featured a veritable who’s who of house and techno. From pioneers who helped shape the sound of early Detroit, Chicago, New York and UK scenes in the late 80s and early 90s to new pan global producers. One of its many highlights was the deep and driving collaborative track ‘What It is’ by Darren Emerson, My Evil Twiin, Paris The Black Fu (Detroit Grand Pubahs) and Gareth Whitehead, which now receives four stellar remixes.
Rome’s homegrown Gforty who’s released on labels like Bush, Naked Lunch, Restructured, Teggno and of course Bulletdodge, turns in an epic big room remix to open the proceedings, before Gareth heads closer to home for his next enlisted act, Glaswegian duo, Laugh Like Me who deliver a deep and atmospheric techno remix.
Ex Prodigy member, Leeroy Thornhill takes the track down a completely different path with his breakbeat fuelled remix, toying with the vocals in a cut and paste style that’s full of adrenaline rushes and pitted with breakdowns.
Last but by no means least is Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll & Jimmy Day. Theirs is a classic housey reworking that gradually builds into a grooving, upbeat cut with cosmic flourishes and a seriously dance-inducing beat. Let’s rave!
