Following on from Ben Long’s debut solo album ‘Standing Alone’ released on EPMmusic in April and the first remix EP featuring Blueprint’s James Ruskin and Chaval’s Victor Santana in May, comes this second set of remixes.
Ben Long’s Space DJz cohort and Bandulu member, Jamie Bissmire makes his first appearance on the EP with a remix of ‘Calling Broadsword’. Another fitting choice to take on the dubby original, Bissmire gives us resonating techno brilliance to rival Ruskin’s equally sterling delivery earlier this summer. Later on Bissmire returns to team up once more with Long for ‘Fading’, one of the album’s more direct techno offerings but instead of giving us something more typical of their Space DJz guise, we see them working under their own names to turn in a Detroit influenced masterpiece.
Chris McCormack has all but hung up his production hat in recent years to concentrate on his Blacklisted Mastering company. But having released some incredible work in the past on Ben Long’s Potential label (amongst many others), his reworking of ‘Open Doors’ is a very welcome return. Proving that he hasn’t lost any of the production skills that made him such an innovator, his remix is full of complex rhythms and warm emotion.
Not content with this already impressive selection of remixes, a third remix EP will be announced shortly.
